Description
A beautiful pair of 19C antique Meiji era Japanese shakudo earrings. The earrings feature an eagle flying over flowering branches. Dark treated shakudo metal as a base, with contrasting gold overlay to the eagles ,branches and flowers. Gold wire hooks and loop are 14kt gold.Earrings measure 1 1/4" in length (counting wire hooks). Plaque measures 3/4" in height and 1" in width. Condition good, some wear to gold overlay.
Shakudo is a Japanese metal art that utilizes silver, copper and gold and dates to the Samurai era. When the Samurai were abolished in the late 19th century, Artisans would sometimes remove the Shakudo plaques from the armor and incorporate it into jewelry or art.
